Stefan Gross is a Senior Public Policy Specialist and has been FINMA’s leading expert on sustainable finance and climate risks for several years. As head of FINMA’s Sustainable Finance Unit, he develops and coordinates FINMA’s activities in the area of sustainable finance, particularly with regard to climate risks and combating greenwashing. He also represents FINMA in various national and international working groups, such as the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS) and the IOSCO Sustainable Finance Taskforce (STF). Among other things, he is coordinating work on integrating climate-related risks into FINMA’s supervisory practice for banks and insurers and has led the pilot project on measuring transition risks at big banks (co-lead with the Swiss National Bank). Previously, he worked for the Parliamentary Services, where he investigated the Swiss authorities‘ management of the global financial crisis in the service of the Control Committees. He holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva.
