Steffen Fuchs
Nachhaltigkeitsbeauftragter / Sustainability Officer
VPV Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG
After a traditional banking apprenticeship at Dresdner Bank in 1993 and a subsequent specialisation in securities investments, I was a securities advisor for wealthy private clients. This was followed by a move to corporate banking, where I was responsible for advising larger medium-sized companies on securities investments, currency and interest rate hedging and optimisation.
After 12 years, I was recruited by HSBC. Here I successfully built up the new interest rate and foreign exchange centre in Stuttgart for the corporate client business and made it profitable.
The move to HSBC’s German headquarters in Düsseldorf was inevitable. There, as COO in the Corporate Clients – Global Markets division, I improved the operational interfaces, restructured the compliance and monitoring of compliance and supervisory requirements as well as parts of the reporting and successfully accompanied the strategic reorientation of the division.
At VPV, I was responsible for liquid assets totalling around EUR 6.5 billion (approx. 90% of investments) between 2014 and 2022. I initiated, developed and implemented a management system based on ESG criteria in 2018 and continuously developed it further. During this time, I was co-founder of the cross-divisional VPV sustainability team.
In March 2022, I was able to take up the position of Sustainability Officer newly created by the Executive Board and fill it with life in order to coordinate and further expand the topic of sustainability in all its facets (E, S & G), both in regulatory and organisational terms. Since then, the focus has been on the responsibility and management of regulatory requirements (in particular CSR/CSRD).
