Annemarie Büttner
Lead Climate Risk Solutions
Swiss Re

Annemarie Büttner is Lead Climate Risk Solutions at Swiss Re in Zurich, a role she has held since August 2022. In this position, she leads the Climate Risk Solutions services offering for Swiss Re’s corporate clients and is responsible for developing and delivering client advisory engagements end- to-end—from service pitches and scoping through mitigation and adaptation advice to insurance solution offerings.

Prior to Swiss Re, she worked as a Climate Risk and Insurance Consultant at CelsiusPro (April 2021 to June 2022) in Zurich. There, she provided Climate Risk Insights and Solutions (CRIS) services for global corporations, with a focus on physical climate risks and TCFD reporting. She also developed parametric insurance solutions for climate, agricultural, and natural catastrophe risks, established consulting mandates to support clients such as the World Bank on managing risks worldwide, and contributed to improving access to climate insurance in developing countries by enabling local insurers to offer parametric solutions—e.g., for smallholder farmers—using CelsiusPro’s software.

Before that, Annemarie spent five years at Zurich Insurance Company Ltd in Zurich. From January 2020 to April 2021, she served as a Senior Natural Catastrophe Analyst, analysing and advising on the key drivers of the company’s natural catastrophe exposure, structuring and negotiating external reinsurance treaty placements, and leading a project team responsible for internal natural catastrophe reporting tools used by an international audience. During this time, she also joined a sustainability initiative to build a BI solution for identifying greenhouse-gas drivers among customers and to provide internal climate-change consultancy.

Earlier, from May 2016 to January 2020, she worked as a Catastrophe Risk Modeler, analysing exposure drivers and modelling natural catastrophe losses. She briefed internal and external stakeholders on KPIs and portfolio changes—including implications for reinsurance treaties—managed reporting tool projects in Power BI, and participated in customer on-site visits. As part of a business rotation in Risk Engineering, she also helped build a climate-change analysis tool.
